Here are the phones with the fastest mobile internet connections

The number of 4G phones in Sweden has exploded over the past year as is shown in an excerpt from our comprehensive mobile report that is being released today. The fastest phones are from Samsung, HTC and Sony, but iPhones are starting to gain ground.

The results are based on 1.2 million measurements taken with apps from Bredbandskollen (the Broadband Check). A total of more than 30 million measurements have been taken since 2008. Feel free to test your own mobile by downloading the app for iPhones/iPads and Android.

Last year, when we produced this report, only a few of the most popular phones were 4G phones. This year, something changed; two out of three phones are now 4G phones and the difference in speed is enormous. Despite strict internet-data rationing, Sweden’s 4G network is super-fast, which is clear from our report.

The phone models supporting 4G had an average speed for receiving data of 15.9 Mbps for the January 1–May 15 period, while the average speed for receiving data for phones supporting 3G only was 4.6 Mbps for the same period. The average speed for internet data has increased from 7 Mbps to 12 Mbps.

iPhone 4 slowest

The most decisive factor for speed is whether you have a 3G or 4G phone. The Sony Xperia Z2 was the fastest in the survey with an average speed of 24.4 Mbps and the iPhone 4 was in last place with 1.5 Mbps. In other words, the fastest phone is 16 times faster.  Generally speaking, Android is fastest and, despite Apple’s latest models supporting the Swedish 4G network, Apple’s flagship iPhone 5s rated no higher than 11th (17,9 Mbit/s) in the list of Sweden’s fastest mobile phones.

Speeds for the 136 most common models

Our website internetstatistik.se (internet statistics) provides a list where you can compare speeds for all phone models in the survey.

What? iPhone is the slowest;very interesting. Apple still needs to do a lot of things, at least in the matter of internet connection speed. Very good information. Thanks to Rickard!
